Beautiful flowers, displays and spots which have been manicured to perfection helped to secure Beer a gold award at the South West in Bloom awards.
Volunteers were thrilled to receive the accolade in Mary Mortimer Trophy category at a special Royal Horticultural Society presentation ceremony in Yeovil last Thursday (October 4).
Ursula Makepeace, president of Beer Horticultural Society, said: “The ceremony was very well organised and a very enjoyable event attended by a total of 350 representatives of the South West Region. Beer was represented by three members of the Beer Horticultural Society and four enthusiastic Beer residents.”
‘Outstanding’ (level five) ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ awards were given to the grounds outside St Michael’s Church, Beer Volunteers and the Jubilee Gardening Team. ‘Thriving’ (level four) awards were also presented to Beer C of E Primary School, Puffins Pre-School, Charlie’s Yard, Beer Robin’s Nest (on Jubilee) and Beach Court Beer. An ‘advancing’ (level three) award was given to Fore Street Children.
