Beer soloist in hot demand

Beer soloist Chris Gradwell will be joining up with two local music groups for special concerts in the next fortnight.

The clarinet player will be joining the Isca String Quartet for a performance in Sidmouth to raise money for charity on March 4.

And next weekend the experienced musician will be playing a clarinet concerto by Mozart in Exeter Cathedral with the city’s chamber choir.

Chris, who is an associate of the Royal Academy of Music has freelanced with all the London orchestras, and recorded music with Pink Floyd and Genesis.

He moved to Devon five years ago, and plays in his own band, ‘The Little Big Band’, along with other local groups with a diverse repertoire from classical and jazz to the modern day.

He is known as one of the best soloists in the South West, and next Saturday, February 25, he will be playing with Exeter Chamber Choir, conducted by Andrew Daldorph, who will be performing Mozart’s great mass.

The following Sunday the locally-based Isca Quartet will be teaming up with Mr Gradwell for a concert to raise money for charity at Kennaway House in Sidmouth.

It will also contain a world premiere of a piece written by Seaton composer Gordon Langford, as well as pieces by Beethoven and Mozart

The performance will be the first occasion such a chamber programme will have featured in the large gallery room at Kennaway House.

Taking place on Sunday, March 4, the concert will be followed by afternoon tea, and is being held in aid of Parkinson’s UK
