CAROLS: A special Christmas Carol service is being held at St Winifred’s Church in Branscombe on Sunday, December 18 at 11.15am. Last week it was wrongly reported it would take place at 6pm, and Sidmouth Town Band would be playing, but is in fact the church ‘Service of Nine Lessons and Carols’.
MEETING: Branscombe Parish Council discussed the Snow Warden Scheme amongst other matters at a recent meeting in the village hall. The next meeting will be in January 2012.
PARTY REARRANGEMENT: The church carol party in Branscombe has been moved to Friday, December 16, after a booking clash. Axe Vale Hunt had sold 200 tickets for an auction and supper tonight, when they had booked the village hall for the week previously. Organisers of the carol party decided it was easier for them to move than to make the hunt rearrange, so the evening of entertainment, games and carol singing will be at 6.30pm a week today, and not in fact in the hall tonight. There is free entry with a complimentary glass of mulled wine and a mince pie provided, with a retiring collection for Children’s Hospice South West.
CHRISTMAS FAIR: Branscombe’s ‘Christmas Fair’ was a huge success according to organisers who hope to have raised a solid amount for the village hall funds. Last Saturday the hall was filled with decorated Christmas stalls, and Santa Claus was on hand to give presents to the children. Janet Sindle, treasurer of Branscombe Village Hall, who helped organise the fair, said she was very pleased with the amount of local people who turned out this year and supported the event. And she revealed the men’s section of the Royal British Legion, who won the £50 prize for best-dressed stall, gave the money back to help the hall make event more money from the event. The Christmas fair is the only event to raise money for the upkeep of the village hall, and the committee are hoping to get even more bookings for next year to help them cover the cost of the renovation work they have been undertaking.
