A former RAF cadet hall in Sidmouth will be replaced with two bungalows for elderly residents if an outline planning application is approved.

Demolition of the large semi-industrial building and redevelopment of the Manstone Lane site will result in a ‘considerable upgrading of the locality’ and have obvious benefits to neighbours, according to the plans. The single-storey, one-bedroom homes will have a ‘logical’ layout, with only the bathrooms and kitchens facing the Manstone workshops, and boast ‘pleasant’ gardens. No parking is proposed as there are bus routes nearby and amenities within a short walk.

The 2019 Sidmouth Squadron of the Air Training Corps was based in the centre until 2011, when it moved to its new HQ off Stowford Rise. The premises was sold for £38,000 at auction last month.
