BIG BREAKFAST: To raise money for Cancer Research, Beer Sailing Club is holding a full, three-course breakfast on Wednesday, March 21, from 8am to 1pm. Tickets cost �6.
CHRISTIAN STUDY GROUP: Branscombe’s Study Group will be meeting on Friday, March 30 at 5 Mill Lane in the village at 2.30pm. They are continuing their study of Matthew’s Gospel, all are welcome. Call 01297 680424.
EXERCISE GROUP: A new fun and gentle chair-based exercise class has started at Branscombe Village Hall. Set to music, the class is designed to improve co-ordination and flexibility, as well as health and wellbeing. PARISH COUNCIL: Councillors in Branscombe discussed plans to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in the village. Branscombe Parish Council also discussed the county council’s snow warden scheme and emergency plan, as well as the building line in the village at the meeting in the social room at the Village Hall.
BARN DANCE: Branscombe Village Hall is hosting a barn dance with the Dartmoor Pixie Band tomorrow night from 8pm until 11pm. Tickets cost �9 for adults and �4.50 for children and include a ploughman’s supper. There will be a full bar and a raffle, and the tickets are available from Branscombe post office.
IRISH PLAY: The Mariners Hall in Beer is hosting a production by Crediton Arts Centre of The Shaughraun by Dion Boucicault on Friday, March 23 at 7.45 pm. Tickets for the Irish melodrama are available from Beer Post Office priced at �8 for adults and �6 for children. Alternatively, tickets including a pre-show meal at Steamers Restaurant are available for �18 by contacting 01297 22922.
SCULPTURE TALK: The next Branscombe Project talk will be given by Newcastle-based artist and sculptor Andy Burton on Monday, March 26. Mr Burton, who has collaborated with artisans and villagers in India to create sculptures that use their traditional skills and materials, will be showing off pictures of art installations made from cow dung. The talk starts at 7.30pm in Branscombe Village Hall.
TITANIC CENTENARY: The Fountain Head in Branscombe is holding a Titanic Centenary Evening on Friday, March 30. The pub is offering a seven course dinner based on the one served on the Titanic on its final night. Tickets cost �27 per head, to reserve a table contact 01297 680359.
LUNCH: Beer Congregational Church has announced its Lent Lunch made �200 for charity. More than 40 people attended the event in Wednesday, March 7, and the money raised will go to Christian Aid.
