FIREFIGHTERS were called to a chimney blaze in Newton Poppleford on Tuesday. One crew from Sidmouth, with Crew Commander Falkner in charge, attended the fire at Burrow Lane at around 7.45pm.

A Devon and Somerset fire service spokesman said "steady progress" was made by the crew but a further engine was requested to assist.

The flames were extinguished shortly after and the area was made safe before the crews left the scene.
