BEER will welcome judges from South West in Bloom on Friday, July 9. Martin Ford and Lyndsay Weaver have allocated the whole of the morning to touring the village, allowing plenty of time to check out its floral displays.
They will start out on the upper half of Fore Street, visit the church, Beer Cross and Barnards Farm, then head along the Causeway to Puffins Playgroup, Beer School, Pecorama, through Underleys, Park Road, the Meadows, Clapps Lane, the lower half of Fore Street, Anchor, Jubilee Gardens, and Charlie’s Yard.
Beer Horticultural Society chairman Ursula Makepeace said: “It is important that all the areas visited are weed-free and tidy.
The village received a supply of bedding plants from East Devon District Council towards its In Bloom efforts. There were enough plants to fill all the containers in the village. Twelve members of the horticultural society were involved in the planting. The plans for this year include two floral sculptures outside Beer Church, a three-tier flower tower at the lower end of Gravel Cottages, which the society was able to buy with the help of a grant from Devon County Council, and new baskets outside Mariners Hall.
