RESCUERS were scrambled over fears a body was floating in the sea off Sidmouth – but the object turned out to be a jacket.
Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched at around 6.30pm last Thursday after the suspect object was seen bobbing 100m from the coastline.
Coastguards were tasked to meet police on the scene to investigate.
However, the object was located by the lifeboat crew and turned out to be a jacket floating on the sea.
A search was conducted to ensure that no persons were at risk but nothing untoward was found.
