Beer Coastguard assisted bomb disposal teams after a World War Two hand grenade was spotted in the River Axe yesterday (Thursday).
Police also attended the incident in Seaton just before 11am after the explosive device was seen in low water.
Bomb disposal experts made the grenade safe before removing it from the river bed and taking it away for disposal.
A Beer Coastguard spokesman said: “It was still in reasonable condition considering it’s been in the sea and mud for over 70 years.”
