A sporty boy stuck to his promise to run to remember his friend’s father and raised £1,050 for a Sidmouth charity.

Sam Pyne ran the 3.7 miles from Ottery Primary School to Sidmouth seafront in 29 minutes, with his dad Jim and dog Widget by his side.

The 11-year-old pledged to go the distance for a charity while in a religious education class, and settled on Sidmouth Living with Cancer in memory of Jason Roberts, who died from the disease.

“I’ve always been a runner but I haven’t done much fundraising, just a bit at school,” said the Sidmouth Warriors player. “I like helping other people.”

The Otterton lad is starting at Sidmouth College in September, where he hopes to keep running.
