Young people have major share of 6,200 handout to local charities

YOUNG people are the major beneficiaries of this year’s Branscombe Charity Air Day.

With nearly 4,000 people at the event, organisers handed over 6,200 to 11 good causes, with Children’s Hospice South West receiving 3,000, a major share of the proceeds.

Five youth orientated groups had a share of 1,400. Devon and Cornwall Police Cadets received 100, while Sidmouth Explorer Scouts and East Devon Air Training Corps each got 300. Branscombe Primary School got 500 and 200 went to Branscombe Youth Group.

Three other local causes shared 1,200: Branscombe Parish Church received 200, while 500 each went to Branscombe Village Hall and the local Royal British Legion branch.

Devon Air Ambulance received 500 and Exeter Leukaemia Fund received 100. Both these charities serve the wider community.

Airfield organiser David Hayman, who handed out the cheques at the airfield on Saturday, (October 16), said he was delighted with the results of the 2010 Charity Air Day.

He said: “Everyone had a great time. The weather was fantastic and the displays of light aircraft and classic vehicles were wonderful.

“Best of all, we have been able to make some really useful donations to some thoroughly worthwhile good causes.”

He thanked the army of volunteers to helped make the air day such a success, giving special thanks to the scouts, air cadets and St John Ambulance team.

Since it started 20 years ago, Branscombe Charity Air Day has raised more than 110,000 for charity.
