The proceeds from Branscombe’s air day spectacular in the summer were this week doled out to various local charities.

David and Naomi Hayman have been hosting a classic airplane and car day at Branscombe Airfield to raise money for charity for several years.

And from June’s event, which saw more than 4,000 people watch a fly-by from an RAF Dakota Aircraft and 300 classic vehicles, around 5,000 was given away to local charities and organisations, such as the Exeter Leukaemia Fund, who received 750.

The bulk of the money though, went to Devon Air Ambulance, who received 3,000 from the Haymans, who said they had matched last year’s money raised.

Representatives from several of the recipients were at the airfield at the weekend to get their cheques, including the Royal British Legion branch in Branscombe, who were handed 200, Sidmouth ATC and Sidmouth Explorer Scouts, who were also given 200.

Money was also donated to Branscombe Primary School, St John’s Ambulance, and to a fund set up for a neighbour of the Haymans who recently died.
