PLAYERS: The Branscombe Players will be holding its annual meeting on Wednesday, March 28 at 7.30pm. After a winter break the players will be returning to make a presentation to Paul Haines in recognition of his longstanding contribution for many years as a writer, producer and actor. The group will also discuss plans for the coming year, and invite everyone along who would like to be involved in future activities, or anyone who like to help pay tribute to Paul.

AGM: Branscombe Village Hall will be holding its annual meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm. The following day Branscombe Seniors group is having a Coffee Morning and Table Top Sale in the hall from 10.30am to noon.

SUPPER: The East Devon branch of Amnesty International is holding its annual supper at Branscombe Village Hall on Saturday, April 28. There will be a three-course meal of Scandinavian food from 7.30pm, doors open at 6.45pm, and tickets cost �13. SINGING: St Michael’s Church in Beer is holding a ‘Come and Sing Day’ on Saturday, May 12. Led by famous choral music composer John Rutter, guests will spend the day working on his music and ‘other music to make you smile’. Organisers say it will be: “A day that will inspire, and be a day to remember in the company of one of Britain’s most loved and prolific composers.” Registration is at 10am, and the event lasts from 11am until 5pm. Tickets cost �20 per person, which includes a �10 deposit for music hire which will be refunded at the end of the day. GRIZZLY: The thousands of intrepid athletes are making their final preparation for Sunday’s gruelling 20-mile Grizzly race. After starting in Seaton at 10.30am, competitors will go across East Devon, including Beer, Branscombe and Weston. Last year’s race took in miles of difficult terrain around fields and on the beach in Branscombe, but organisers say this year, called Every Hill has a Silver Lining, could be even harder, and promise plenty of climbing for the competitors.

COUNCIL: Beer Parish Council discussed approving delegated powers for a group to organise a street party for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. They also discussed approval for expenditure on new trees for Cowerslea Way and a donation towards the cost of the party for the village.

CINEMA: Beer Film Society’s (BFS) next screening will be Oscar-nominated Woody Allen comedy Midnight in Paris on Monday, March 19 at 7.30pm at Steamer’s Restaurant on New Cut.
