A MASSIVE £1,500 galloped into Branscombe's Village Hall Roof Fund after a successful race night was held in the village on Saturday night.

Around 100 people attended the event which included twelve races all sponsored by local businesses.

Paul Newman, chairman of the village hall committee, said: "We had a fantastically successful night. The atmosphere was buzzing, even riotous at the closing stages of the race!

"Big thanks go to all the local businesses who very kindly sponsored the races and also to everyone who supported this event and spent their money despite the credit crunch.
