Around �450 was raised in Branscombe for charity last Christmas thanks to the village carol singers and the organisers of a party in the village hall. Read this and more.

JUBILEE: Branscombe Parish Council are asking residents if they would like to help organise the village celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The council is asking all organisations to think about ideas Branscombe could take on and present them at its next meeting on Monday, February 23 at 5.30pm. It added: “We desperately seek a person who will help the village organise this wonderful celebration.”

WI: Beer branch of the Women’s Institute are meeting on Wednesday, February 1 for a braiding demonstration and workshop given by Lesley McGowan Locke. The meeting takes place in the balcony room at the Mariners Hall at 7pm.

SERVICE FOR ALL: St Winfred’s Church is introducing a new type of church service, suitable for all ages. The first of four services this year takes place on Sunday at 11.15am to celebrate the Feast of Candlemass. Organisers say although the church has toy bags available at its regular weekly services, the content of the services is directed at an adult audience, and wanted to create something more inclusive, although stress this is not a ‘children’s service’.

Almost �200 was raised in collections for Shelterbox with carol singing at The Mason’s Arms and The Fountain Head on December 23. And St Winifred’s Church carol party made �250 for Children’s Hospice South West.
