Couple who suffered a double tragedy
A BRAVE couple who suffered a double tragedy hope it will be second time lucky for a Sidmouth charity fun day organised in memory of their twins who died before birth.
Greg and Jen Phillips, and friend Lynette Olding, will stage the event at The Ham on Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.
A similar day of festivities last month had to be moved to Branscombe Village Hall at the last minute thanks to relentless rain on the day.
Greg, Jen and Lynette defied miserable weather and still raised £233 for the Snow Drop Appeal.
They hope Sunday’s fun will add to that amount with the help of Sidmouth residents.
Greg and Jen, from Plympton, founded the charity to raise £10,000 to allow for an area to provide a more dignified and relaxed environment to those grieving at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.
The couple were hit by tragedies in 2008 and 2009 when their unborn twins died. Jessica was lost due to vanishing twin syndrome, while Jasmine was stillborn at 32 weeks.
Close friend Lynette, 21, from Manstone Avenue, Sidmouth, has helped organise the fun day.
“Hopefully we’ll have more luck with the weather,” she said.
Bouncy castles, a hog roast, candy floss and ‘sumo suit’ fun will feature.
