Sidmouth’s recycling centre has reopened after a break-in overnight.

The police are investigating after the site team arrived this morning (Monday) to find broken glass and that the shop had been entered.

A spokesman for Devon County Council, which owns the facility at Bowd, said: “The team phoned the police, and shut the site temporarily while they cleared up sufficiently to make sure that the rest of the site was safe to reopen.

“It’s open now, but the shop is shut while the police investigate.

“They made quite a lot of mess inside. We don’t believe that they were there with any single item in mind.”

Police have previously investigated a series of thefts of car batteries from various recycling centres.
