SIDMOUTH savers could be missing out on unclaimed cash in forgotten accounts according to a building society.

Britannia Building Society is looking to reunite savers in the town with funds they may have forgotten existed by writing to anyone it believes has an account with a balance of £25 or more and which has not been used for at least 15 years.

Tim Franklin, Managing Director of Member Business, said: "It's amazing to think that people could simply forget about their savings, but we know this can happen all too easily. People move house and don't tell us, details change, or when members sadly pass away sometimes relatives are not aware of accounts; so over time savings are forgotten."

The society has been writing to customers all over the South West at their last known address and next year will also be trying to find those people who it believes have moved house.

Mr Franklin added: "We're encouraging anyone who receives a letter from us to get in touch as soon as possible so that we can reunite them with their savings and hopefully give their finances a boost in the New Year."

Anyone who receives a letter from Britannia, or thinks they may have 'forgotten' savings, should visit their nearest Britannia branch or call 0800 132 304 for more information.
