Last Tuesday (November 6) members of the Sidford Brownies troop visited Sidmouth Museum to see some real artefacts from the First World War and gain a better understanding of remembrance.

The idea for the visit came after leaders of the group realised many of the children who will be taking part in Sunday’s parade did not know why they were marching.

Amy Baker, brownie leader, said: “We were speaking as a brownie group and we realised that none of these children know why they’re marching on Sunday and we felt it was very important that they knew.

“I’m really glad we did it. Ann Tanner and the other people at the museum who put it across very well.”

Some of the artefacts the children got to see included a spoon, binoculars, photos and letters from the trenches.

The brownies also wrote letters addressed to the soldiers that will be hung as part of Sunday’s march.
