SIDMOUTH's CCTV campaign could be given a boost from a leading telecoms company.Chris Taylor, chairman of Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce, met with Andrew Laverick, from BT, last Thursday, to discuss the possibility of the company playing a part in the campaign.Mr Taylor said: "It went OK. He didn't promise anything. He took all the details of what we want to do and what we need to achieve it. "He is quite hopeful we may be able to do something. What they will get out of it is publicity."He has made no commitments, but he's taken information away and said he will email me if he gets any information back. It's quite positive at the moment, nothing may come of it, but he seemed hopeful."Mr Laverick is a 21st century programme manager for BT, and is currently looking at CCTV technology and the uses of it. BT is looking into delivering greater control and flexibility to consumers and offering faster new technology services.Another security company is also set to give a quote for a system for the town.Mr Taylor said: "They're going to be looking at a slightly different way of doing it rather than broadband. We've got a firm coming down to look around the town and find the best system to transmit the images through to the control room."Cheques are still coming in, with £150 from Notions and £50 from the Sidmouth Methodist Church Guild. Anyone who wishes to contribute to the campaign should send a cheque, payable to Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce, to: WATCH Campaign, Sidmouth Herald, 106 High Street, Sidmouth, EX10 8EF.
