A PLANE crashed at Branscombe Airfield after hitting a bump in the grass during take off, an investigation has found.A report from the Department for Transport's air accident investigation branch found the Bolkow F207 aircraft had hit a bump and then veered to the right before crashing through a wire fence, at about 2pm on Sunday, November 5, 2007.Published last week, the report said: "The aircraft hit a bump in the grass and became airborne. The right wing dropped slightly and the aircraft veered to the right, heading towards an electricity pole outside the airfield boundary."The pilot tried to correct by applying left aileron, but the right wing stalled, turning and diving the aircraft to the right. It struck the ground and cartwheeled through a wire fence, badly damaging the left wing and landing gear before coming to rest in a neighbouring field."Both the pilot and his passenger escaped uninjured, but the aeroplane was severely damaged and the propeller was bent. The report said: "The pilot stated that, after the aircraft became airborne too early, he had not been quick enough to lower the nose and maintain the heading on the runway centreline.
