CROWDS packed the grounds of Sidmouth Victoria Hospital on Saturday for its

Comforts Fund's summer fete.

And fund chairman Graham Vincent; new Citizen of the Year, praised the committee and hospital staff for their hard work in making it a successful afternoon.

Sir John Cave, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon, opened the fete, which raised £1,300 towards Phase Five of upgrading the community hospital.

Former Citizen of the Year, David Baldock, provided music and there was plenty to entertain, eat and spend money on during the fete.

Teas on the terrace and sizzling sausages were an attraction, as were tours of the hospital's operating theatre.

"We had a lot of support and the money will go to Phase Five, which is our priority," said Mr Vincent.

The Comforts Fund street collection flag day takes place in Sidmouth today (Friday).
