Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked for the second time this year after reports of a small vessel drifting with no one on board.
Crews launched in the fading light at 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) and confirmed it was not a boat but a large marker buoy.
It had been washed away from the offshore mussel farm in the storms of the previous night and was approximately one mile south east of Sidmouth.
The buoy was retrieved and the lifeboat crew was stood down by Solent coastguard and began its evening training session.
