Detectives urge witnesses to come forward after criminals swipe £3k haul

A SIDMOUTH family arrived home from holiday to find their house had been burgled, said detectives intent on catching the culprit.

Criminals stole jewellery of sentimental value from the property when it was unoccupied between September 2 and Saturday, September 17.

Police investigating the crime said the value of the burglar’s haul could be around £3,000.

Detective Constable Chris Willsdon, of Honiton CID, has appealed for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Hillside Road, Southway or Cliff Road area to contact police.

“This was very traumatic for the residents,” said DC Willsdon.

Sergeant Andy Turner has urged anyone looking after a house that is unoccupied, or anyone who is intending on going away, to make sure regular checks are carried out and to look at additional security measures.

He said neighbourhood team PCSOs can visit homes and issue security advice prior to residents going away.

Contact DC Willsdon at Honiton CID by dialling 101, crime reference: KS/11/544.
