Warnings over counterfeit cash have been issued to shop and business owners across East Devon.

It comes after several incidents were reported over the weekend about fake Bank of England £50 notes and Irish £20 notes being used to purchase goods in East and Mid Devon.

A police spokesperson said the notes may not be detectable with the use of counterfeit detection pens, but if anyone was to find one in their takings then they should call 101, quoting CR/68293/16.

If anyone recognises a counterfeit note during a transaction, they have been advised to diall 999.
