After nine years of successful and enjoyable trading in Sidmouth and almost two years to the day after we made the hard decision not to reopen DaffyDownDilly Confectioners in its High Street format after the first lockdown, we thought it was a good time to let you know what sweet things we've been up to!

We had been building our E-commerce and Amazon business for several years before the pandemic so we were in a strong position to feel reasonably confident about the move into our new town centre premises in 2020. We were incredibly fortunate to find the perfect industrial unit right in the heart of Sidmouth to pack our products for wholesale, E-commerce and run our click and collect service. Contrary to popular opinion we found Amazon a great place to learn our internet selling lessons - it exposes you to a colossal customer base and as long as you do your research prior to launch and accept it is also a commercial business, you can build a very positive and long-lasting commercial relationship and bring those valuable lessons into your own brand website too.

I would really like to thank Janet and Alex and their team at Sidmouth Post Office for having faith in us and allowing us the opportunity to explore new ways of working on the High Street, with a collaborative and exciting business model. I love that businesses can work together to support one another positively and that forward-thinking change is super exciting for us and for our customers.

We are delighted that further to our pilot work with Janet and Alex we have been able to open further outlets in a similar vein in the South West, including our newest partnership with Dartmoor Zoo who have taken stock of our wholesale grab bags, packed right here in Sidmouth in awesome compostable and biodegradable bags with bespoke branding - if you have a business and would like to talk to us about a business relationship and what stocking DaffyDownDilly Confectionery can offer you and your customers please do get in touch!

And finally, the icing on the cake, we are beyond proud to have just been awarded Sweetshop of the Year 2022 - Devon in the Business Excellence Awards.

I hope this shines a positive light on retail and the High Street and indeed change in general. Many of us independent businesses are forging new trails to grow our business and appreciate your support now as much as pre-Covid. Let's try to put the doom and gloom behind us, move forward into a glorious Devon summer and not be put off trying new things as business changes... After all, just because some say it can't be done doesn't make it so. And as for what the future holds for DaffyDownDilly Confectioners? We are beyond excited to fully develop our wholesale offering whilst continuing to expand our successful E-Commerce business.

And if you’re keen to follow our business story or just love great pictures of awesome sweets, you can of course find us nattering away on Facebook and Instagram - we'd love to see you there!
