Members of Sidford Women’s Institute (WI) have contributed a bench to the community to commemorate the organisation’s 100th anniversary.
The seat in the Byes was opened by historian Dr Todd Gray MBE on Wednesday, June 10 – he said it was a ‘wonderful symbol’ of the WI’s sense of ‘community and fellowship’.
Sidford WI secretary Beryl Kingman said: “The bench is in a lovely position looking up over the hill. I think everybody will appreciate it and we were very pleased to do it.” Dr Gray said: “The WI has had many achievements in its first 100 years, but one of the greatest is giving a sense of community and fellowship - the ladies here endeavour to look after one another and play a key role in Sidford.”
