WOMEN from Sidmouth have been keeping busy this winter, knitting blankets, children’s hats, jumpers and other garments for destitute families in Eastern Europe.
Our photographer, Alex Walton, took this photograph of a group of these ladies, and some from Sidmouth Inner Wheel, who packed the items ready for transportation to Moldova, declared the poorest country in Europe.
They met at St Theresa’s Hall, Sidmouth, after a service in Sidmouth’s Catholic Church, Radway, for Women’s World Day of Prayer last Friday.
Joan Bennett said: “The knitted handwork is never dropped off in unnamed warehouses. The drivers are welcomed back by the local organisers.
“Gifts are distributed by the clergy of churches in Moldova, according to the specific needs of poor families who they know personally.”
