A Christian café and book shop that has supported Sidmouth’s community and served as a meeting place for 25 years is celebrating the landmark anniversary. When John Dun died shortly after opening the Mustard Seed with wife Pam, people from local churches were invited to form a charitable trust to secure its future.

Christians have continued to generously support it.

Manager Sally Wilshaw said: “When you visit us, you will be served by one of the three paid staff or a faithful volunteer from our team.

“Our customers often comment on the friendly, calm, peaceful atmosphere when they can enjoy a freshly prepared snack, a bowl of homemade soup or select one of the cakes or scones.

“There is also time to chat, or select a book or gift.

“We aim to provide a place for people to meet and seek to support people in the community, alongside the food bank and Gateway, who might be struggling with life’s pressures.”
