AN action group fighting plans to controversially re-open a quarry in Venn Ottery will hold its first formal public meeting tomorrow (Friday, September 17).
Campaigners will gather in Newton Poppleford Village Hall as they look to oppose Aggregate Industries plans to begin extracting sand and gravel from its site on Venn Ottery Hill in the new year.
Concerned nearby householders say it will have a “devastating impact” on wildlife, the landscape, natural environment and their lives.
They fear excavations will have an “appalling effect” on an area used by people around the region for walking, cycling and horse riding.
Residents cannot make a case against planning permission for the quarry but do object to a transport plan they fear will see increased lorry movements near their homes.
Campaigners packed Newton Poppleford Village Hall earlier this month to voice their concerns to the parish council.
The action group meeting will take place from 8pm.
