A Canadian is tracing her family ties to the Sid Valley for her wedding day tomorrow (Saturday).
Alix King’s dad, Bruce, grew up in Sidbury, and it was there that he met her mum, Georgina, when she moved to the village as a teenager.
They moved to South Africa in 1975 and later Canada – and now Alix has returned with fiancé Craig Malcolm and more than 120 guests to get married at Escot House, near Ottery St Mary.
“I’ve always felt Sidmouth was my home away from home and always that I would someday marry here,” she said.
“I just had no idea that 30-plus Canadians would make the trip over, as well as the 90 or so out-of-towners from the UK.
“My dad is a Sidmouth boy through and through and loves coming back as often as he can to visit his old locals and see his childhood friends, many of whom still live here.
“He’s bursting with pride that his Canadian family and friends are coming over to his hometown to witness our very special day.”
The wedding guests will be at the Rising Sun in Sidford from 6pm today if any of their friends want to join them.
