Michael 'Friar' West stopped off in the town during a 300-mile round trip from Torquay to the Isle of Wight in an open canoe in 1976. Friar's visit led to the formation of his charity the International Conservation Awareness Network (ICAN). The charity aims to form a nature reserve for wild animals and rare plants in East Devon.
Those Were The Days was filmed last October and will be shown on Wednesday, May 14 at 9pm.
