EMERGENCY services were called to Putts Corner last Sunday after a car crashed into a hedge.

The Isuzu Trooper, which ended up on its side, was deeply embedded in the hedge near the Hare and Hounds Pub.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 1.30pm.

The male driver and female passenger were examined by paramedics but did not need further treatment.

Firefighters were asked to assist at 1.50pm following reports that smoke was coming from the car's engine.

A fire crew from Honiton, with Watch Commander Brook in charge, made the vehicle and surrounding area safe before leaving the incident in the hands of the police.

As a result of the crash, one lane was blocked by rogue branches which had fallen onto the road.

Council workers were called to remove the branches and to cut back part of the hedge.

The lane was re-opened by the police just after 6pm.
