Carnival club needs you

SID Vale Carnival Club is looking for new members.
The club, founded in 1983, has had a successful 2010 on the East Devon carnival circuit, winning 17 cups.
At Taunton, they came second in their class, at Bridgwater they came sixth out of 13 entries, and at North Petherton they came second out of 14 entrants.
At the East Devon circuit presentation evening in Ottery on December 10, the club was awarded the cups for the club with most points, best in the open class, and most colourful float.
“We’re extremely pleased,” said club secretary Marion Perry. “We would now like to see some new blood helping create the float and taking part. We are always open to new members.”
Carpenters, electricians and those with a creative eye to help build the float, and anyone who wants to be on it, are welcome. Building is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and starts in January.
The club currently has 31 members, aged 16 to 72, from the Sidmouth area, Hontion and Exeter.
“We cover a wide area and are a mixed bunch,” said Marion. “It’s a sociable thing to get involved with.”
This year’s theme – Jokers – presented something of a challenge, due to its complex design. The float’s dominant feature was a joker with moving arms and legs. Participants were dressed as jokers, and there were cards painted on the float and incorporated into the costumes.
“It was a challenge, as there was so much to it, but it paid off,” said Marion. “Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success.”
Having been with the club from the start, she encouraged anyone who was interested to get in touch.
“I wouldn’t have stayed in it so long if it wasn’t enjoyable,” she said.
