PLAY-areas which offer Sidmouth and Ottery children adventure could be set for a 50,000 funding boost.

PLAY-areas which offer Sidmouth and Ottery children adventure could be set for a 50,000 funding boost.

Organisations including community groups, parish and town councils, voluntary organisations and local charities have been invited to apply for grants of up to 50,000 to build new or refurbish old play areas for 8-13 year olds. Around 22 play areas across Devon will receive the funding.

An East Devon District Council spokesman said: "Play areas that will encourage more active play and include an element of challenge or adventure are more likely to be successful. The funders are also looking for projects that will be attractive to girls, inclusive of minority ethnic groups and that more children, including disabled children, can access safely."

The cash comes from the Government's Play Builder project and will be handed out by Devon County Council.

Expressions of interest over funding must be declared by May 15.
