AN East Devon charity has appealed for residents to help support vulnerable volunteers in Sidmouth.
The Ottery St Mary based ‘Sidekick’ programme offers free training for ‘buddies’ who are matched to work alongside supported volunteers, helping them build skills and confidence to the point that they can work independently.
Project co-ordinator, Jacky Cox said: “Buddies support people who are vulnerable for a number of reasons such as mental ill health, or a learning disability.
“Placements could be in a charity shop, a conservation project or community caf.”
No previous experience is necessary but buddies must have the confidence to communicate with and effectively support people to volunteer who have mental health issues and, or a learning disability. All expenses are paid.
Contact Jacky on (01404) 549045 for more information.
