A donation of £950 is helping Sid Valley’s first community radio studio to make waves on the air by helping to build a necessary studio booth.

Councillor Stuart Hughes provided the money from his locality budget to Sid Valley Radio to help with the construction of the studio, which was built by members of the Sid Vale Carnival Club.

Bob Weeks, who started the station, said when he tried to his radio shows the quality of the sound was ‘appalling’ without the booth.

He said: “You couldn’t do a radio show when all you can hear is echo. The only way to do this was put up a booth that is going to be large enough so we can fit large groups in to play live music and also keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer.”

Cllr Hughes added: “I think it is going to be an asset to the town. Community radio is really very important, it’s a stepping stone for people to get into broadcast and once you get into it, you get the bug and you cannot get it out your system.”
