New storage facilities donated to Rise Children’s Centre in Stowford Rise
THE Children’s Centre at Stowford Rise has received two storage boxes in which to keep play equipment, thanks to a county councillor and Sidmouth Garden Centre.
Centre plant manager, Darren Knapman, and Devon County Councillor, Stuart Hughes, are pictured with staff and children from the Children’s Centre, which is based at Stowford Community Centre with one of the storage boxes this week.
Mr Hughes gave £500 from his locality budget to pay for ground works and concrete bases the storage boxes are mounted, and staff from the garden centre carried out the work, putting down the bases.
He said: “The Children’s Centre didn’t have funding for this and approached me to see if I could help and I am delighted that I was able to provide the necessary funding.
“We’ve all seen, in a very short while, what an important part the Children’s Centre plays and what a fantastic asset it is for families with young children.”
James Trevett, manager of Sidmouth Garden Centre, said: “We’ve given the Children’s Centre plants, time and equipment, we supplied the bases for the units and we’ve been there with the kids planting in barrels and pots.
“We try to help out as much as we can for things that deserve it. What they needed more than anything was time to help out and get it done.”
