WORK to remove a troublesome chimney-stack at Ottery's Coleridge playgroup took place this weekend after more than 1000 was raised to fund the project.
Staff at the Jesu Street premises noticed the problem during recent snowy weather when water leaked into an inside room and opted to have the dilapidated chimney taken down after consulting builders.
Playgroup manager Sue Scott said: "People coming into Ottery from Tip Hill may notice it is gone. There are some lovely chimney pots on the top which the builder said he will remove intact so children can use them for planting."
Funding for the work was secured through a 1,000 donation from the Garfield Weston Foundation with the remainder coming from Ottery town council.
