SIDMOUTH’S Christine Drew is East Devon District Council’s member champion for young people.

She is reponsible for promoting initiatives being undertaken by young people, to tackle issues they might have, and ensure council members are aware of what is going on in their communities. As a mother, grandmother and school governor at Sidbury Primary School, she is well-equipped for the role.

Councillor Drew, of Temple Street, has helped establish the Young People Group, whose 13 young members will meet with her and council officers every three months to keep them up to date and share ideas. She is hoping to work closely with the Childrens’ Trust and was involved in setting up the junior life skills course for 10-year-olds at Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary yesterday. She is keen to introduce Sidmouth Learning Support’s internet safety workshops in primary schools.
