Sidmouth card shop scheme to raise funds for lifeboat funds
CARD shop owner Penny Newland was inundated when she appealed for old Christmas cards to make gift tags in aid of Sidmouth Lifeboat.
Penny, of No 83 for Cards, High Street, Sidmouth, had to enlist eight helpers to make up bags of 25 tags and ended up with nearly 2,000 bags to sell.
“We got swamped with cards. My helpers cut them up and put them into bags for me,” said Penny, who has raised around 300 - and counting - for Sidmouth Lifeboat.
Penny, who sailed the world and values the work of the lifeboat emergency service, said: “I just want to raise as much for Sidmouth Lifeboat as I can.”
The bags are just 1 and with the bag comes a raffle ticket for a single quilt made by Sandra Isles from Launceston.
“I’ve got at least 1,200 bags left, so the more I can sell the better,” said Penny, who may think twice about asking for old cards this Christmas!
