The vicar for Salcombe Regis and All Saints Church has bid farewell to his parishioners after 11 years serving the Sid Valley.

The Reverend Roger Trumper and his wife, Susan, are retiring to Yeovil to be closer to the airport – their family is spread across Geneva and Northern Ireland. They have three grandchildren and a fourth is on the way in October.

“There are particular challenges in Sidmouth,” said 63-year-old Roger, who was previously a maths teacher. “It’s very difficult, but it’s very rewarding – I’ve got a bulging collection of thank-you letters. It’s been wonderful to serve two brilliant churches in Sidmouth. I will miss it.”

All Saints Church held a farewell party for the couple last weekend and this Sunday (July 31) it will be the turn of the curate. Keen walker Mark Barrett and his wife Helen are moving to Jersey, where Mark will take his first post as vicar.
