Clay brothers captain All Stars friendly for cancer charity

FOOTBALLING brothers Danny and Ben Clay will captain opposing sides in a charity match between Exeter City All Stars and Sidbury United AFC, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.

They have organised the match, which will be held at Byes Lane, Sidford, on April 26, in memory of their mother Ann, who died from breast cancer last September.

Her husband Tim said: "The event will be a real family day out, with entertainment for the kids, including a bouncing castle."

A signed football and other prizes donated by Exeter City FC will be among items to win in a prize draw during the afternoon after the 2.30pm kick-off.

There will be a bar and barbeque going all afternoon and, said Tim: "Hopefully it will be one of the biggest sporting events to take place in the Sid Valley."

He and his sons hope to raise "a four figure sum" for the cancer charity.

As well as midfield player Danny, 23, the Exeter squad will include current and former players; subject to end of season fixtures for their current teams, including many who played against Manchester United in 2005.

The line-up will be Kwame Ampadu, Martin Rice (goalie), Andy Taylor, Jamie Mudge, Jake Edwards, Santos Gaia, Steve Flack, Shaun Taylor, Peter Hatch, Gary Rice, Dean Moxey, James Bittner, Chris Todd, Richard Pears, Scott Hiley and Sean Canham, as well as Torquay United record appearance holder Kevin Hill.

The team will be managed by former Exeter stars Jimmy Giles and Alan Banks.

Tim said: "We also hope to have an official refereeing the game from the Premiership."

Although there will be no charge to the Sidford ground, a souvenir programme is being produced, which Tim hopes will boost funds for Breast Cancer Care.

It will contain photographs of all the players and supported by adverts from local businesses.

East Devon Grecians and local radio will be involved with publicising the event.
