The school equalled last year’s record-breaking total, with 74 per cent of students achieving five or more A* - C grades.

Many of the year 11 teens were waiting outside the college hall before 9am to get their results yesterday (Thursday).

Principal Kenny Duncan, who is leaving the college after four years in charge, praised the hard work and effort of all students.

He said: “These are yet another fabulous set of results for the college, which underline the hard work and commendable effort that every single student has put into their studies over the past two years. They each deserve all that they have achieved today.”

He thanked staff for their contribution and support, which resulted in 96 per cent of pupils receiving five or more A* - G grades and 64 per cent of students achieving five A* - C grades, including English and maths.

Among the top achievers was 16-year-old Sam Laurenti, who achieved eight A*s, three As and a B. He will now go on to study further maths, maths, chemistry and physics at Exeter Maths School.

Sam said: “I was really nervous - we were here at about 8.55am and had to line up. When you get the envelope, it makes it all better.”

Sporty Oliver Jarrett had a big smile on his face after achieving three A*s, four As, four Bs and one C grade.

Friends Isobelle Reed, Alastair Papwell, Cameron Retter, Ben Ardley and Jacob Evans were celebrating their success with a pizza.

Isobelle will be staying on at Sidmouth College after securing five A*s, five As and three Bs to study maths, further maths, geography and chemistry.

In German, photography and statistics, 100 per cent of pupils taking the subjects achieved an A* - C grade.

Mr Duncan added: “The biggest achievement for me personally has been yet another year where our value-added measures show clearly that we are able to support all our young people to achieve and exceed their potential irrespective of the grades they are awarded. “Being able to maintain this at such a high level, above national expectation, ensures that every student attending Sidmouth College is given the very best chance in life.”
