SUCCESS was in the air at Colyton Grammar School yesterday as all previous A-level records were broken.

The pass rate for students gaining an A-C grade was 100 per cent, the same as last year, but the overall standard of grades increased with 76 per cent of students gaining an A grade and 95 per cent being awarded A/B grades.

Over a third of the year group gained an A grade in five or more subjects and more than half gained four A grades.

Barry Sindall, Headteacher of Colyton Grammar School, said: "All students deserved credit as everyone had performed well.

"The pleasing thing is that students have met their university offers including the 17 with offers from Oxford and Cambridge Universities."

Among the high-flyers are Dan Adams who received seven A grades, one Distinction and one Merit in Advanced Extension and Rose Hall, awarded seven A grades and three Merits.

Others include Rosa Van Hensbergen who gained 5 grades and 2 Distinctions, sharing the highest mark across the country in Religious Studies.

Rosa was also one of three students at the school to share the top grade in English alongside Fiona Guest and Ruth Carmichael, matched only by two other people in the country.
