After more than four years successfully running the community market in the town Sustainable Ottery is handing over the reins to the United Reformed Church.

Initially created by Diana Jones, it has gone from strength to strength and attracts numerous stallholders and customers every month.

Jill Dixon from the group said: “However, in the spirit of sustainability and according to ‘Transition Town’ ethos, Sustainable Ottery are encouraged to set-up initiatives then hand them over to the community to run.”

So at the next market, on February 23 in the Institute, the Ottery church will be will be in charge of the stalls selling local produce, craft items and gifts.

Beatrix Godfrey, who has been running the event for Sustainable Ottery, was presented with a framed picture of a butterfly to thank her for her hard work.
