Storm Brian did not prevent a big Sidmouth turnout for the Close Shaves Group at All Saints Church last Saturday evening, writes Alison Rix.
The group, former members of the Bach Choir, performed a varied programme of close harmony singing, ranging from spirituals to Ave Maria, from Fats Waller to The Beatles, and a marvellous rendition of A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.
They were joined for some numbers by The High Heels, an equally talented female quartet.
The whole repertoire was marked by pitch perfect tuning, a strong sense of rhythm and infectious enthusiasm.
The same wasn’t universally true when the audience joined in for two songs at the end!
Event organiser Sheelagh Michelmore said: “It was a magnificent evening, with an almost full house and superb performances.
“Almost £2,500 was raised towards the upkeep of the beautiful little church at Salcombe Regis and we are truly grateful to everyone who gave us their support.”
