Sidmouth historians are celebrating the town’s heritage and one of their greatest influences in their annual conference tomorrow.

In the footsteps of Peter Orlando Hutchinson continues the work of the famed Victorian historian, raising awareness of how the Sid Valley has changed over time.

The third yearly meeting looks at how historical landscape studies have changed and at Hutchinson’s pioneering influence.

There will be talks from East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty manager Chris Wood, the Sid Vale Association’s Nigel Hyman and Barbara Farquharson from the Branscombe Project, among others.

Topics will include a perceptual history of Devon, how Sidmouth would have looked to Hutchinson and what the project has achieved.

The conference will be in Kennaway House from 9.30am until 4.30pm. Registration for tickets (£12) is from 9.30am until 10am and there may still be some spaces available.
