Hundreds of red ducks, sponsored by businesses from across the valley, raised a whopping £2,000 for charity.
The annual Great Duck Derby, held by the Sidmouth Lions, took place on July 15. Hundreds of ducks raced down the River Sid, while spectators cheered them on.
Lion President Alex Blyth and several other Lions presented the three corporate duck race winners and their chosen charities with cheques at The Anchor Inn, in Old Fore Street, on Tuesday (July 24).
The winner was red duck number 11, sponsored by Gilbert Stephens Solicitors who gave their £1,000 prize money to Sidmouth Admiral Nurse. The second prize of £600 was won by duck 129, sponsored by Northcott Brothers Funeral Directors. The money was donated to Sidmouth Lifeboat. Third place went to duck 213, sponsored by Hillside House Residential Care Home, in Newton Poppleford, which gave their £400 to Sidmouth Hospiscare. Alex said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support this year.”
