PLEAS from flood-hit Thorne Farm Way residents to have tonnes of debris that lines a troublesome Ottery waterway cleared have been backed by town officials.
Last month the Herald reported how the banks of the brook, which runs from the estate to the River Otter via Barrack Road, are steeped with a myriad of rubbish and earth after the stream was dredged in January- and residents were fearful the unsightly and unstable debris could collapse back into the water, causing further flooding misery.
Earlier this month an Environment Agency (EA) spokesman said: "Our understanding is that some residents are for the banks remaining and some against.
"Whether these arisings remain or are removed ultimately rests with East Devon District Council as the controlling authority."
The EA then sought the advice of Ottery town council as what course of action to take.
On Monday, councillors were unanimous that the debris was an "eyesore" and wanted it removed.
